Thank You For Bringing the Heart to Dementia Care

We sat down with the Director of Education here at NCCDP Denise Scruggs to talk about a series of topics regarding how to assist our loved ones living with dementia.
Let's Talk About Dementia-min (1)

Hi, my name is Denise Scruggs. I’m the Director of Education at the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners. I wanted to just give a shout-out to all of you guys who work in Dementia care and want to just say we appreciate what you’re doing. You bring the heart to Dementia care and what I mean by that, you bring the compassion and the support. The reassurance and encouragement that you provide for persons with dementia really make a difference in their quality of life. Your patience and understanding make it an environment that a person wants to be in and makes it safe to make the many mistakes that we might have when we have dementia. We also know that you slow down quite a bit when you’re working with a person with dementia because they definitely live life at a different pace than we do, but you’re willing to step back and go at that pace and be flexible. You also give a person with dementia the opportunity to live life at its fullest at their highest level that they can live. You make adaptations and other things to allow them to enjoy life and what is so important about that they’re not sitting in a chair marking the days off till they die. They’re living to the end and you are the person that helps make that happen. You’re the heart of dementia care you are making a difference every single day and NCCDP appreciates what you’re doing and we thank you for your dedication and commitment to providing quality Dementia care and to serving the people that you care for every day.
