How to Become a Helpful Member in a Memory Care Community

We sat down with Rachelle Blough Kowalczyk to discuss the impact of CDP education on senior living environments.
Let's Talk About Dementia-min (1)

What is something that you feel strongly about discussing within the dementia world / memory care field?

I feel really really strongly there’s not enough people to address the silver tsunami that’s you know a part of our US, you know. How can we start to get people excited and look at transferable skills. I have seen some of the best people come into our industry. It was a lady who was a chemical engineer she decided after covid she wanted to do something more purposeful and leave a mark on the world and make it difference and thriving in our industry. I just think there’s so many transferable skills and people who see how fulfilling it is that we get paid to bring joy and meaning and purpose to people. I love to be a mentor so I don’t know if anyone is thinking they might want to make a career switch to Memory Care. I truly would encourage them to reach out, even directly to myself at rachellebloughltd.com or through anywhere to find a mentor that can show them the joy in this work. I had a waitress who was amazing; you know, you’re good at banter, we were able to teach them the rest. We had a hair stylist who transferred over, environmental service, maintenance gentlemen sometimes have the biggest hearts in the whole building and they were just working in you know a hotel and didn’t get that connection and now they’re thriving in Senior Living. So I’m excited to see the influx of the the new generation of Memory Care Professionals.
