Spotlight featuring Clarisa Blakemore, RN, CADDCT
Clarissa Blakemore is an RN and Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer (CADDCT). Clarissa’s expertise comes from over 20 years in Geriatric care settings, and she has a passion for geriatrics and dementia care. This is her story:
“I worked in geriatrics 20+ years as a certified nursing assistant. I returned to school, received a LPN license, and worked 7 years before obtaining an RN license. I was staffed as a mental health nurse, assessing behaviors, discovering the brain and its complexity, but my heart remained with geriatrics.
While exploring various specialties in pediatrics, travel nursing, home health aide trainer, DON and management in an assisted living, the journey was insightful but, did not satisfy my desire to ensure proper care of the elderly community and other patients affected by this disease.
In my experience, lack of understanding of a disease or disease process can create issues and worsening conditions. In my opinion, this training can aid all healthcare professionals and care takers by gaining knowledge and reducing barriers.
My executive director at the Haven House in Marion, IL. informed me of the NCCDP. She and I felt it would be great for me to become a certified trainer (CADDCT). My patients are my priority. When something is near and dear to your heart. You connect, believe, and move accordingly.”
