Gary Hibbs BA, MSW,
JD, LGSW, NHA
Gary Hibbs has considerable experience
serving older adults in a number of
roles. Since January 2001, he has served
as executive director of Cedar Crest
Village, Inc (CCV), a continuing care
retirement community (CCRC) in Pompton
Plains, NJ. Developed and operated by
Baltimore based Erickson Retirement
Communities, Inc., the planned community
will be a continuum including independent
living and assisted living apartments,
and a skilled nursing facility that
may be home to over 2,300 residents
on 143 acres. In addition to independent
living apartments, it currently house
a medical center and a fitness center
among other amenities. After total build
–out, Cedar Crest Village will be a
major employer in the local area with
over 1,300 employees.
In his role at CCV, Gary is responsible
for the local operation of the campus.
Previously, Gary served as executive
director of Henry Ford Village, in Dearborn
Michigan. Henry Ford Village is a fully
built out community of Erickson Retirement
Communities, Inc. At Henry Ford, he
had oversight of a 150M campus with
1,300 residents and 750 employees. He
served Henry Ford Village for five years.
As noted, Gary has varied experiences
in senior housing and healthcare. Before
he was appointed executive director
of Henry Ford Village, Inc., he served
as administrator of the Charlestown
Retirement Community’s Frederick House,
a 133-bed assisted living facility.
In this capacity, he was responsible
for the daily operations of the Frederick
House as well as for being part of the
management team of healthcare professionals
that directed the continuum of care
to Charlestown’s 2,300 residents. Gary
joined Charlestown after serving as
administrator of Wellington Manor, a
284 –bed long term care facility in
Clinton Maryland.
He also practiced law with the Senior
Citizen Law Project in Prince George’s
County, Maryland. Gary also served as
an intern on Capitol Hill in the offices
of the late U.S. Representative Claude
Pepper of Florida. Congressman Pepper
was well known for championing the causes
of the older Americans. Congressman
Pepper further inspired Gary to enter
the field of service to older adults.
Gary attended the University of Maryland
College Park, where he received his
undergraduate degree in government and
politics. He also received a Master
of Social Work degree specializing in
aging as well as a juris doctorate from
the University of Maryland at Baltimore.
Gary is married to the former Jennifer
Bauhofer of Goldsboro, North Carolina;
they are the proud parents of two sons
and two daughters. They live in Sparta,
New Jersey
